Guidelines for Grants to Individuals

Purpose

The Ironmongers' Company supports people in need through the Thomas Betton's Charity. The administration of these grants is delegated to another charity, Housing the Homeless Central Fund.

The majority of grants are made for essential household items.

Application Procedure

Applications for grants are only accepted from accredited social work agencies on behalf of their clients.  Applications are not accepted from the individuals themselves.

For guidelines and an application form, the social worker should write to the following address enclosing an SAE and describing what the grant is for:

Housing the Homeless Central Fund,
2 Evershed House,
Old Castle Street,
London E1 7NU.

 

Exclusions

Please note that grants are not given for:

  • Large single items over £50 e.g. washing machines, cookers, fridge-freezers, carpets.
  • Medical expenses.
  • Educational purposes.
  • Holidays or travel expenses.
  • Structural improvements to property.
  • Rent debts, unless circumstances are exceptional.
  • Funeral costs.
  • Computers.
  • Removal costs.
  • TV/audio equipment and TV licences.

Applications are not accepted on behalf of individuals with debts in excess of £500.
