Purpose

The Ironmongers' Company aims to help people who are disadvantaged to improve their ability to make the most of life. We wish to support projects that develop and nurture the motivation and skills necessary to take advantage of opportunities.

Grants will be made for projects that meet all of the following criteria:

1. Children and young people up to the age of 25

2. Educational activities

3. Specific projects with clear aims and objectives to be met within a planned timescale.

At the present time, the Company is particularly interested in enabling primary age children to develop a strong foundation for the future. Examples of activities might include supporting special educational needs, addressing emotional/behavioural problems, promoting citizenship and life skills and family support, such as parenting skills. In addition, preference will be given to projects piloting new approaches where the outcomes will be disseminated to a wider audience.

Grants

•  Most grants are in the region of £1,000 to £5,000.

•  Grants must be spent within twelve months from the date of the award.

•  All recipients are expected to submit a written evaluation report within three months from completion of the project.

•  The Trustees will consider making grants over more than one year to longer term projects, subject to a satisfactory evaluation of progress at the end of each year.

•  The Company's support should make a recognisable difference, therefore preference will be given to requests which cover a significant element of the cost and to those from smaller organisations.

Eligibility

•  Registered charities only.

•  Projects in the UK, with some preference for inner London.

Exclusions

•  Large projects towards which any contribution from the Company would have limited impact.
